Based upon the information you have provided, my gut says the expansion valve is stuck closed. My guess is the tech misdiagnosed high liquid pressure as an overcharge. If the compressor were non operable, you would have never been able to get a charge back in the system.

If the expansion valve were stuck closed, all off the refrigerant would end up in the condenser and not allowed to flow into the cabin evaporator. You would get heat in the liquid lines but the suction lines would not cool down.

It is located where the lines enter the firewall on the cabin side. I have never replaced one on a G8 so I'm no help as far as how difficult it is. Typically, you have to remove the charge, disconnect the lines at the firewall, and then remove the evaporator core from the dash. They are usually buried unfortunately. It MAY be about to come out the firewall...

That's where I thought it was. Man if that comes out from under the dash, looks like a nightmare job..

Gonna drop it off at the dealership Monday or Tuesday...

Anyone ever change an expansion valve on a g8???

92192021 Was the original part, looks like the P/N Ray listed is the newest.

Alldata shows just 1.1hrs for R/R of that part. Looks like it is replaceable from the front...

Since it can come off from the front, I'd be inclined to tackle it, if you have a shop that will drain/refill the system for you...

Then again, if that's the problem - a $100 part and an hour of labor ain't too shabby to get your AC back!

What were the pressure readings on both sides ? The biggest blockage point on these is the dryer built in to the passenger side of the condensor. It removes from the top of condensor
