    Cool Newbie

Hello, I was a member of w-body.com and pontiacbonnevilleclub.com back in the day if anybody else recognizes me from there. At the beginning of the year I purchased my G8, which my wife named Smaug because it's sleek, fast, terrifying, and red. I am now looking for some info on upgrades. My G8 travels 60 miles a day to work and back so my plan is to keep it mostly stock, but I would like to wake up the exhaust note a bit without introducing drone, and am in need of new tires already. If anybody wants to point me to their favorite threads on those topics, please post up! I will be doing a lot of searching and research on my G8 looking for good mods. I am interested in a tune as I have read it makes the transmission shift points less dumb (seriously what is the tranny's problem?). I have never done any custom tuning on my cars so I am interested in learning about this area in particular.

I am a self-taught shade tree mechanic. My Jeeps have given me a lot of experience in suspension components. I have done several custom audio setups, and will be doing a simple setup in this car too (I am going a bit deaf). I have done some internal engine work, but have very little experience with cams and custom components.

I hope to contribute to the community once I get a little more knowledge on this car.

    Welcome.
If you want something wilder than stock GT muffler, but not as wild or expensive as Corsa or Solo, a set of used GXP stocks are a little louder when you are on it, but pretty quiet at idle. I am assuming you have a GT. Check out the classifieds on here.

Welcome to the forum. For exhaust I went Corsa for a drone free ride. Patric G's tune took care of the indecisive tranny.

I vote Corsa as well. Corsa sounds amazing, not too offensive, I get nothing but compliments. I've had other setups on other sports cars including Magnaflow, Borla, Flowmaster (my first setup, I was a n00b.) I even had straight pipes at one point, which can sound good, but generally they have a niche audience which enjoys hearing them and I got plenty of negative feedback from strangers :P.

At the same time the Corsa doesn't sound lame either. It has a clean sound, gets plenty loud when you stomp on it, but quiets down and sounds sexy when you're just puttering around a downtown street. It has a nice gurgle and pop when you let off the throttle rapidly if you're at a higher rpm in a low gear, especially with headers and race cats.
